What is Arabinogalactan ?
Arabinogalactan is a neutral polysaccharide composed of L-arabinose and D-galactose. It belongs to the pectin family of plant cell wall components. The main chain links galactose through β-1,3 or β-1,6 glycosidic bonds, while the side chains contain arabinose groups, forming a highly branched structure. This substance is widely found in the xylem of coniferous trees, especially larch, where it contains up to 25%-30%. It can be obtained from wood flour by water extraction, appearing as a white to pale yellow powder. It possesses properties such as easy water solubility, thickening, and gelling effects.
